Barney Hospitality Group
Taps Wireless Recon System
Technology Enables Seamless Wireless Connection – and
Competitive Advantage – In Southern California-based Hotel
Properties
PITTSBURGH, MAY 4, 2006 - Helium
Networks
(http://www.heliumnetworks.com), a leading provider
of wireless LAN (WLAN) site survey, design and maintenance tools, announces
that the Barney Hospitality Group, based in San Diego, CA, has purchased
its Wireless Recon system to ensure seamless wireless connection throughout
its hotel properties.
“The availability of seamless wireless connection is extremely
high on the business traveler’s priority list when deciding
on a hotel,” said Shaun Barney, Systems Administrator for
the Barney Hospitality Group. “Prior to purchasing the Wireless
Recon system, our challenge was being able to know definitively
where our signal was weak or strong throughout our properties.
Now, we can pinpoint the signal with total precision, which enables
us to support applications such as traditional Web and email access
to voice over IP (VoIP), videoconferencing, along with providing
guests with access to encrypted VPNs – with guaranteed bandwidth
to accommodate these demanding applications. This is a huge differentiator
from a competitive standpoint.”
Technicians within the internal IT department at the Barney
Group are utilizing Wireless Recon, a patented, breakthrough technology,
to optimally conduct site surveys or audit 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi
networks in half the time of traditional methods, while automatically
collecting a large set of real wireless measurements correlated
with precise indoor location information.
SiteSense, the intelligent software behind the Wireless Recon
system, takes this comprehensive set of wireless information and
translates it into an easy-to-understand, highly accurate, visual
layout of the wireless network. From there, the Barney Group technicians
design, optimize and maintain a constantly evolving wireless network.
“The Barney Hospitality Group is part of Helium’s
growing list of customers in verticals such as hospitality, healthcare,
manufacturing and government,” said Walt Halasowski, President
of Helium Networks, Inc. “While existing hotel properties
are always being updated, older construction serves new sets of
problems that property management companies need to address. They
are finding wireless networks to be a critical part of their business
operations, and we’re very proud to be helping them achieve
a significant competitive advantage within their target markets.”
According to Shaun Barney, the corporation
looked at various options for its site survey and audit tool
and found Helium’s
product the superior choice from a usability and accuracy standpoint.
“What sold me on the Wireless Recon system was its ease
of use and its ability to collect data indoors,” explained
Barney. “Other systems use GPS technology that simply won’t
work indoors, within concrete structures such as ours. Helium’s
technology works beautifully indoors and we also didn’t
have to worry about using floor plans to conduct the site survey
and audit. We also didn’t choose the traditional ‘point
and click’ systems because they didn’t enable us to
take as many measurements. We’d only get 4-12 measurements
throughout the buildings, as opposed to the literally hundreds
of measurements that Wireless Recon enables. This is important
because we know, without question, precisely where the signal
goes and where it doesn’t go.”
Aside from the accuracy and ease of use issues,
the Barney Group measures return on investment through its customers. “We take
the time to continually measure our customers’ satisfaction
through surveys. Since using Wireless Recon to achieve seamless
WLAN connection, it’s increased our guest satisfaction. We
have a direct, measurable correlation and that pays for the investment
right there.”
