HELIUM, XiTech team up to design wireless network for pittsburgh mercy health system
Pittsburgh, PA – January 07, 2004 - Helium Networks announced today that its wireless
networking design and troubleshooting tool - Rollabout - was selected for use by XiTech
Corporation in designing and deploying Mercy Hospital's 802.11 wireless network.
"Designing a reliable and an enterprise class wireless network is a difficult task" says Ray
Geyer, network engineer for XiTech. "By using Rollabout, we're able to virtually locate
and move wireless access points to ensure the best possible wireless coverage, easily
assign channel frequencies with minimum interference and provide the best and cost
effective solution to our customer.
“Mercy continuously evaluates new technologies that will assist us in providing the
highest quality of care to our patients. Using wireless networks will provide our
physicians and nurses with immediate access to patient medical records, prescriptions,
and other information that is critical to the patient’s treatment,” says Steve D. Adams,
chief information officer, Pittsburgh Mercy Health System. “We believe these changes
will help us to maintain quality, expedite the care we provide to our patients, and enhance
physician and nurse satisfaction.
"We’re very glad to be selected by the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System, a nation’s
leading health care institution for the wireless design work," says, Chintu Parikh, VP of
Business Development and Marketing for Helium Networks. Wireless LANs deployed
for improving the quality of patient care in hospitals like Mercy play a mission critical
role and they need to provide robust, reliable, secure and interference free wireless
network connections. Chintu further adds “Our patented Rollabout solution takes the
guesswork out of designing the network, develops a high quality and optimized WLAN
design and at the same time reduces the cost of designing and maintaining Wi-Fi
networks by 50 percent.”
